The English lyrics were written by Rod McKuen as part of a larger project to translate Brel's work. Nikos Deja Vu - Deliverance - Dueling Banjos. "Dueling Banjos" is an instrumental composition by Arthur "Guitar Boogie" Smith made famous by the 1972 motion picture Deliverance. A scene depicts Billy Redden playing it opposite Ronny Cox, who joins him on guitar. Redden plays "Lonnie" — a mentally retarded, inbred, but extremely gifted banjo player. A body double actually played the banjo. The song went to #2 for four weeks on the US pop chart in 1973 and topped the adult contemporary chart for two weeks the same year. It also led to a successful lawsuit by the song's composer, since it was used in the film without his permission. "Dueling Banjos" was arranged and performed for the movie by Eric Weissberg and Steve Mandell and was included on the soundtrack album. The song was composed in 1955 by Smith as a banjo instrumental he called "Feudin' Banjos". Smith recorded it, playing a four-string plectrum banjo and accompanied by five-string bluegrass banjo player Don Reno. When he was not acknowledged as the composer by the filmmakers, even though the tune resembled "Yankee Doodle" somewhat, Smith sued and eventually won, receiving songwriting credit as well as royalties. Two young musicians, Ron Brentano and Mike Russo, had originally been signed to play their adaptation for the movie, but instead it was performed by the others. Mayec Rancel & Jose Angel Soto met at the CICE 3D Animation and Digital Post Production class in Madrid. Two young animators with a story to tell, they were fitted into a project together outside of this school at the end of the September 2005. This project became Substantia. ''Substantia is a metaphor. It describes a strange universe somewhat like our outer space, inhabited by heart-shaped planets that are constantly exposed to fire meteors speeding around them. There are also mysterious tear-drops that fall through this space. They are rare and few, but once in a while, a planet's path coincides with a tear's, and from the encounter springs life. Thus begins an eternal cycle of life and death, plenitude and suffering, and seemingly random events take shape into a larger scheme. With Substantia we were trying to tell a universal story, says Mayec. One that would give a sense of meaning to all the seemingly random events in life that make us suffer or thrive, grow or wither. That includes many different ideas like friendship, love, learning, death, suffering, fear and loss.'' Up until the middle of the 20 th century, which means before the construction of major dykes and the operation of pumping stations, large areas of the delta were flooded. The cycle of erosion and deposition among the sea, river and land as well as the action of marine waves at the coast have contributed to the topology of Evros delta, which continues to be a dynamic and evolutionary ecosystem. This natural cycle has been recently modified because of human interventions at the river's basin. Dams, channels, ditches and flood-prevention as well as irrigation works were constructed in Evros Delta between 1950 and 1980 in order to expand the land area available for cultivation. These human interventions decreased the fresh water supply, limited its access into the delta area and also contributed to the invasion of salt water into the inner areas of the delta. After the completion of the abovementioned works, the largest parts of marshes and wetlands were drained and large quantities of fresh water were channeled directly into the sea. During subsequent years, extensive drainage works took place in the area and there was an effort to "control" the Evros River flow through the use of dykes and new channels.
